Long Review with the Good and the Bad - Had Some Hiccups, Had Some Fun
L K (Placerville, California) on Sep 16, 2024
We stayed for five nights with a deal we got with All Inclusive Outlet. I researched the hotel extensively before we went but was still left surprised by the room we received which was an upgraded "swim up" room. Our room had a lap pool shared with one other room. I thought the swim up room would connect with the vast swimming pools at the this resort but in reality only 5 or so rooms have that feature! Those rooms we found out are the villas and cost a lot more. As for our swim up room, beware - there is zero privacy. The shower and tub are open to the room and when I inquired about that I was told that most of the rooms at this resort are like that. Not our preference and would have not had booked had I know. We were also disappointed with the resort ap which is supposed to be interactive with your stay but once we got there, the ap did nothing except list the activities for the day. Almost all the information for the restaurants was incorrect as well as the menus. Apparently the week we arrived was the week that you had to make reservations for the steak house. There were so many guests who were upset by this because nobody was informed, there was no notice anywhere and of course the ap did not have any useful information. Very frustrating and something that could have been told to us and others upon check-in. The biggest frustration came when a huge storm hit the second night we were there and our room flooded. I walked out of the bathroom and slipped. The water was pouring in under the front door. We were afraid to open the door and could here a lot of commotion outside. I called the front desk and told them and was freaking out and he said he would send someone up. It took 30 minutes before anyone arrived all the while we figured the whole place was flooding since it took so long. Come to find out, it was only our room and the one next door. Wow, talk about luck! Had we not been in the room it would have been disastrous because we were able to divert the flow of water to the shower drain instead of into the living area. Other disappointments of this resort: you the credits you get for Joe Merchant for snacks and drinks. There really isn't much there that was appealing and the price for the alcohol is a lot. So pretty much most use it to take home coffee or one bottle of booze. The alcohol the use for drinks is definitely watered down and NOT "premium" as they advertise. There is an uncharge for any liquor you have heard of before. Unless you tip (and tipping is included with the all inclusive), don't expect "luxury resort" service either. If you establish a rapport with staff and tip them then you will buy very attentive service so decide if that is what you want. It was annoying that all the staff ask "how are you doing" or "are you enjoying yourself" but NOBODY wants to hear if anything but yes you are. I wanted to go to a genuine luxury resort where I didn't feel like I had to tip for luxury service and would receive it same as anybody else. I did not feel like that for the most part. Now for the GOOD: the staff was very friendly and happy. There were some standouts for sure and several of them told us to make sure we mention them in our reviews so I am guessing they get some kind of benefit when you do. Some of the food was excellent and some not. Our favorite restaurant was Kos for the lunch buffet and the Italian restaurant for dinner. We were disappointed with the steak house but that was the night our room flooded and we were almost late for our reservation. The girl told us we did not have a reservation and I had to argue with her with a line forming behind us. She finally found it but it was just a bad night and so I think between that and the menu being a fraction of what was in the ap, it just wasn't good for us that night. The house wine is excellent! We thoroughly enjoy the red cab and the white from Chile. No need to pay extra for the name brands. We enjoyed the music entertainment each night in the lobby. A great mix of different music and a couple of shows too! The Michael Jackson tribute show was also excellent, especially if you are drinking. After all is said and done, the weak drinks are probably a good thing too because I did not wake up with a hangover once time. It enabled us to drink all day! The pool was our favorite part. So fun to hang out all day at the pool which is really big and there are many. The aerobics was the most fun and so was the pool volleyball. The only problem for me was that there is hardly any shade!!! I got burnt even with applying 100spf throughout the day. If only I could rely on shade it would have been heaven! So, if we did not have the stress of our room flooding and having to deal with that and the stress of thinking a bout going to management to inform them of our disappointments, Management did address our concerns and offered us extras which was nice, but overall I was left unsatisfied. I truly feel like the change of ownership to Karisma brand is a big part of the problem. Maybe they are still transitioning but there are a lot of hiccups that need to be fixed for this to be the luxury resort that they say it is. I wish them luck!

Just back from a 2 week stay Hope to pass on our honest experience to help you improve your experience Couple 40s from the UK Booked through TUI UK Advised there was 10 Restaurants, in reality access to 1 or 2 daily if not fully booked up Summary of our stay: Restaurants would change availability day to day eg Asian open tomorrow, tomorrow comes shut. Buffet closed lunch and evening 5 a week days so you better like cheeseburgers No reservations needed for restaurants then all of a sudden you try to get in and you need them and now you can't get in Tried to get in the steakhouse with no reservation told no availability but there is if you buy champagne or wine(at cost) Sometimes when you did get a reservation and get in Many items are not available. Beach bar never open We Could not get the room colder than 19.5C we would wake up in pools of sweat 10-15 minutes to get hot water in your room for a shower. Resort absolutely dead some days very low occupancy we were in wave block and I think there was us and maybe 2 other rooms used. No English premier league on any bar or TV We had diarrhea for over a week and occasionally sickness a few people we spoke to were the same. Points system for minibar was rubbish basically 2000 points per day 1 bottle of corona was 1800 a small can of presidente 480 You get presidente beer no land shark at the brewery Beach not brilliant but 5 minutes walk to the left beach nice but of course no sun loungers there for margaritaville guests Staff as a whole good Resort nice and modern in good condition. We had excellent weather rained for maybe 3 hours 1 day. So much potential wasted not worth the money paid book with caution!!!
